What I Have Learned After 10 Years with Sitecore, Part Two

In case you missed it: Part 1

Ten years is a long time in the technology world. There is always variation, and what we use today to get things done may not exist tomorrow. What is left is the digital experience that can exist in the digital present, flexible and rooted in the real needs of users. Here are more lessons that stuck with me throughout my 10 years in Sitecore.

Strategy has an influence over every decision.

Without strategy, technical choices become isolated tactics. The value of a platform can only be generated at scale when each and every choice is a choice that resonates well with business objectives and journeys of users. Strategy brings coherence across content, operations, and technology.

Governance creates freedom.

Freedom does not result from having the ability to adapt. It’s structure that avoids chaos. When teams trust the system, and trust one another, they work quickly and creatively. Strong governance facilitates innovation.

Evolution beats revolution.

Massive rebuilds might attract attention, but iterative improvement breeds resilience. Little wins add up and lead to better results and reduced risk. Digital longevity is about sustainable momentum.

Curiosity keeps us relevant.

The ecosystem changes constantly. Those who succeed are those who remain curious, try new things, and question old beliefs. That curiosity gives you better strategies and better experiences.

Ten years later, I still feel Sitecore allows teams to deliver meaningful digital experiences. But the opportunity expands when strategy, governance, and curiosity drive the way.
